I just left SBC Yahoo DSL due to their... well, just about everything being wrong about them. After just signing onto Comcast 6 mb/s cable, everything seemed to work fine getting internet directly from the cable modem. However, when i set up my WRPT5G4 Linksys router, which is a combination of both internet and phone lines coming in through the cable, i get some unexplained lag. It does a whole 5-10 second "looking up" before it goes to a page, and then it loads everything like you would expect a cable modem to.

I'm running Fedora Core 4 on a Dell Dimension 3000. Any ideas?

You might see some improvement by adding the DNS server IP addresses to you /etc/resolv.conf file. You also might play around with the QoS settings on that router (if it has them). I know the router I use for VoIP (a Linksys RTP300) definitely introduced a lag into web browsing and those things helped. Didn't completely cure it, but it helped.
