What kind of router is it? We need more details, such as will it act as a DHCP server for your network (if it supports such capabilities), etc.

Sorry for taking so long replying, does it assign ip's automatically for your network? In windows networking properties -> TCP/IP properties for you NIC do you have "automaticaly obtain IP address" choosen or you statically IP'd your Windows machines?

Ive got a WAP model BEFW11S4 and it supports DHCP by dishing out ips for hosts on my LAN.

Flip your router over. Get the model number and google it "+ linksys" and tell us what model it is.

Also, does the router have a configuration via the web?

NOTE most routers will work as dhcp servers or will autodetect static IP's if they are on the same network, so here's what you do.

From a windows computer Click Start->Run and enter winipcfg
Now write down the Gateway/Netmask and the DNS numbers also see which Network you will be using.

Now from the Linux box run your distro's network config tool and set eth0 Gateway and DNS and set the IP to one higher that the last windows computer. Now restart your network.
