i'am new to networking, what should i study first?
( network+, mcitp, RHCE) or else?

Where are you going? Networking is a broad subject. What do you want to do with your knowledge?

The recognised qualification is Cisco CCNA, & CCNP but they are usually not cheap. They are also full of antique and outmoded protocols and systems. I have just finished CCNA 1-4 over the last few years, and learned all about how they used to do it 20 years ago, and basically nothing about how they are going to do it tomorrow. Cisco has been pushing it's own EIGRP protocol, for instance, but now they are admitting EIGRP can't handle IPV6. They are also overhauling the CCNA course.

detr, please, let me join to your post. I'll be grateful to experienced fellows for their thoughts and suggestions about what's worth to learn to not commit some stupid/common mistakes.

It depends on if you need/want any certificate. But I would start wirh CCNA. Even if you will not work directly with Cisco HW during study for the exam you will learn lot of usefull thing.
Network+ may be good as well.
And try to play with some network emulator/simulator or with real gear. It is quite a fun...

Let's be clear. What are you trying to do??

CCNA teaches you about Cisco routers & switches (as used on the internet and in large networks) and on the way, the various protocols you need to set it up.Other stuff is not really covered in CCNA. tcp/ip is a lower level than routers; you look at it, but don't do too much.

A linux admin needs to know sendmail, apache, tcp/ip, bash scripting, perl, python, cron, security and various windows interfaces.It is essential to be able to solve hangs without reboots or restarts.

A windows admin needs to know the various server editions of windows, tcp/ip, netbios, IPX, Novell, LDAP, Lotus Notes(or something) databases, and all the client versions of windows. He also needs scripting skills.

Have you looked at the networking howto on tldp.org?

You may do better if you are programming in familiarising yourself with the basic libraries for use in networking if your code is going to be effective.
