Hi friends!
I am able to add a route to the routing table statically ie from the command prompt after logging in as root, using the route command.
But I dont know how to alter the contents of a Routing table and how to read the contents of routing table within a program.
I need to do this because, we are in to developing the RIP1 protocol
and RIP1 has to access the Routing table contents and modify them and also learn about the new routes and add them to the routing table and forward the routing table contents to its neighbours.
So friends, if u could tell me how to do this, it would be of great help to me.
And friends do i need to learn some new concepts for this: like device drivers, kernel module programming etc.? Please tell me friends.

What program do you want to use to alter the routing table?

My reaction after 1st reading your Q was: "(Trivial) If you understand route, just put your commands in a shell script. (Preferably bash. )

On the 2nd reading, I thought maybe you had something else in mind. In any case, there is no way we can help you without knowing what kind of a program you are writing.
