RHL 7.2 Netgear fa311 odd problems
This is a long story, but I hope is worthwhile, for I cannot figure it out myself. I have two computers that I want to network, with one dual booting as win98/RHL 7.2 and the other as a server/ many other things. But first I needed to hook them together. So I went out and bought two netgear fa311 ethernet cards and a 5 ports switch from netgear. As a test of this new equiptment, I installed win98 on both pcs and transfered about a gig of data easily and without trouble. Then I reformated both computers and installed win98/RHL 7.2 on one, and just RHL 7.2 on the server. On the 7.2 installs they both detected the cards, and I configured them properly. The win98/RHL7.2 did great, and installed fine and the card worked in RH and win98. On the server RHL7.2 would install fine until it did "post install configuration", and stopped. As I had run 7.2 on this comp before, I was perplexed, so I figured out that by not having the fa311 in the server, I could install fine, and it worked great (except for the lack of network capability). After that I put the card in and it was detected during startup and I told kudzu to configure it. After that, the machine hangs while bringing up eth0. After that I tried the driver disk, and the netgear and scyld websites, but was unable to get anything to work.
Because of the identical machine configs w/ windows only on them, and the sucess that I had with that config, I concluded that There must be something with the way that RH treats the fa311 that causes the comp to hang. But it confuses me because I am running RHL 7.2 on both comps, and the card works in one, but not the other.
please help if there are any ideas/suggestions, of anything that I might have overlooked.
