I just installed the VNC server on my linux box and when i tried to connect via a viewer from my windoz workstation, i get "Failed to connect to server". I tried both the server name and the ip address with the same results.

This linux machine is what im using to learn Linux and apache and ive got a firewall configured. I can ping my linux box and i have samba up and running fine also. I haveonly one entry in the IP tables for my windoz machine. I really dont need the firewall, but do i need to remove it to get the VNC viewer to work ?

If its easier to just remove the firewall, then how do i uninstall or disable the firewall ?

Nevermind, i got it to work. I was just not entering the port number on the end of the server address. Bingo i got promted for a password and i was in!

Now...how do i edit the VNC config file to get a view of my Linux desktop instead of a greay window with only an Xterm ?

one thing at a time...anyone got any tips for customizing the VNC config file ?
