Restrict Printing on Local Network?
Okay, here's a question that has been bothering me.
My setup is like this: Mandrake9.0 --Internal Network --Internal Networked Printer All client machines are winxp. I want to restrict the users from all being able to print to the printer (soon to be 2). The problem is, how do I stop them from printing to the printer directly? I have set up a printer share in Samba but don't know how to force my internal network to use it instead of just finding the printer as it is only another node on the network... Any ideas, or am I just thinking about this wrong? Thanks! Bob |
/etc/lpd.perms if they are printing through the Linux system.
If they are directly printing to the printer, check the printer manuals. |
restrict printing on Local Network
Hi there , your problem is an important one , but i am not really an expert in that field , i tried to lookup your problem and i suggest you can look up to http://www.linuxpcug.org/lessons/int...ux-server.html this is a good site where you will get all the details about setting up your printer server ... Hope this works .. all the best

after reading your post again, it appears to me that your problem is about your users bypassing the linux server and printing directly to the printer. Perhaps you can disable DLC on the printer. But again, if XP can use lpd printing, they can still print directly. |
