Restart Ports

How do I see what ports are open on my machine.
And how would I restart a particular port which is locked down by a certain app/prog.

Lets say i want to free up port 3456

Thank you.

"man netstat".
-a = show all processes
-l = only listening processes.
-p = display program owning port (MUST BE ROOT)

To "free up" a used port... shut down the program using the port.

Thank you.

The program is already dead, but when i run it again it says port in use. Is there a command to reset that port.

Also i did a netstat -p, and all i see is the Type, State, I-Node, PID/Program Name, Path,

I dont see Port.

I think the reuse flag would've needed to have been set on the original binding to the socket. You should use -p with -l or -a.
