req advice: 4G mobile broadband and linux

hi I'm thinking I might need 4G mobile broadband in the near future and I'm looking for advice regarding hardware that will work with linux (Redhat/centos/fedora flavour). I looked at some usb devices but when it comes to connecting them with usb cable they only work with ms windows. They boast being able to connect by wifi meaning any client computer can connect to them but i'd prefer a device supported directly in linux. Does anyone know of a linux-compatible usb dongle? something with a decent signal?
I've also been reading about 4G routers which I know are compatible with almost any gadget but I'm not sure about lugging a router around with me.
I know I also have to be careful who I choose for a mobile broadband package so experiences about that are welcome too, thanks for any advice.

this is the tricky bit.
to my knowledge, they ALL use this wifi technique.

a list of devices that connect directly, and some research like "linux 4G-model"?

I'm sure some 4G modem works in your area.

Most in US don't require any special deal. Many of the usb modems will work in linux. They work also when attached to a number of usb supported home routers.

I use a Netgear lb1120 at home and it is OS independent.

I've looked at many of the SIM type usb modems and they do sell for much less. They didn't have the channel I needed in my area for faster speeds is why I didn't buy it. I'd suspect that someone near a city would be able to use many of the usb modems. Some 3G are sill usable for many home tasks.
