remotely using x-windows programs behind a router

I'm trying run some x windows programs on my work machine on my machine here at home (from either telnet or ssh). I set the DISPLAY enviornmental variable properly and I've done xhosts + so I'm pretty sure that it should be working, but it's not.

I'm thinking that maybe this is because of my router blocking the packets.

Does anybody know which ports something like this would use?

Thanks.

If you have a private IP and are trying to do this over the network then it will not work like that. You will need to tunnel it over the ssh connection:
