Unhappy Remote telnet gets 'Connection refused'

On a fresh Redhat 8.0 machine, telnet wasn't enabled by default. So, I edited /etc/xinetd.d/telnet and changed "disable = yes" to "disable = no".
Then, I executed the "/etc/init.d/xinetd restart".
Now, if I telnet to localhost, there's no problem at all, and I am shown a login prompt. But if telnet to the machine remotely, I get a 'Connection refused'.

I remember this had worked earlier on another machine...

Is there something I am msising? Is there something else I should be doing?

regards,
Ashutosh

Nothing special has been set up. Whatever came set up with the OS installation.

/etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny are blank (there are only commented lines in those two files).

How do I check if iptables or ipchains are causing the problem?

Do I need to do a 'iptables -- flush' after enabling telnet?

Since you're using RH you can run lokkit from the console and easily configure the firewall to allow telnet...
