Remote tape access

Hi there

What I am trying to do is access a tape drive on a remote computer as if it was connected locally. The client is Linux RH6.2 and the server is Solaris 2.6. I have shared the device on the solaris computer and tried to mount it on the linux box. Mount sp10:/dev/rst0 /dev/rst0. Much to my surprise I got no errors and the mount point turned into a device file!

crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 1, 137 Sep 5 13:41 rst0

But when I try to use it I get the following error

tar: /dev/rst0: Cannot open: Device not configured
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I have tried to use stinit to configure the device but I get the following:

Canít find tape number for the name Ď/dev/rst0í

Does anyone know if what I am attempting is actually possible and if so how do I configure the device?
