remote login

Hi,

I am a total newbie when it comes to Linux. I downloaded Mandrake 10.1 and installed it over the weekend on 2 computers, and everything is looking good.

My problem is that it's taking me twice the time everytime I install an application, cuz I need to do it on 2 computers.

Firefox twice, Thunderbird twice, Java twice, etc etc.

I was wondering if it is possible that I turn one of these computers to become a "server", so that I only have to install the application on one computer, and the other can load it remotely.

I understand this is no simple question, so I'd appreciate if I can be pointed to a "Guide" or "FAQ" somewhere I can read about it.

I read the guide on NFS, but I guess that is more for sharing files thru mounting point. But I guess what I want is remote login, not sure what it is called exactly.

Thanks.

I think that NFS would work out good for out. But I think samba is even better. What you do is that you just let the server share the dir where the applications are installed and then the client mounts that dir and can then run them. On the client, you may then just put /mounted/dir/bin into $PATH and you can run the applications just as normal.

Here is a samba guide I just found on google, haven't used it myself so I don't know how good it is. But give it a try.
