Remote interface negotiation

Pretty simple scenario,

I have 2 directly connected laptops, let's say Laptop A and B, and I want A to sync its interface properties with the ones of B.

I've been looking for ways to do this using "ethtool" but I can't find a way to do this in a simple way. Is there any way to query B for its properties so A can use the same ones?

Sorry if the question sounds a bit strange...

If I understand the question correctly it is a bit of a catch 22 scenario since the properties need to be set the same before the laptops can actually communicate with each other. Adapters typically are configured to automatically negotiate a connection so you might have to add some additional information to know what you are actually trying to accomplish.
