Remote Desktop Connection MacOSX <-> Linux 8.1

Hi there,

first let me say i'm newbie in linux.

here is my aim:
- i want to connect from my mac to a linux pc (linux prof.8.1)
- i want to use remote desktop 1.0.1 if possible (or other?)
- i do not want to have only file access. i want to mirror the pc
screen/OS on my mac.

here are my problems:
- i cannot type in any IP (fields are all white but un-editable)
- Mac remote desktop gives error message
- i also tried "connect to server" (samba) on mac but no linux pc
or ip adress was found.

is there a better way to connect?
thxs for all help.

ps: there is only linux installed. no windows.

I don't know about Remote desktop but why not use VNC:
http://www.tightvnc.com

incidentally, why tightvnc instead of realvnc, or easyvnc?

TightVNC offers better compression and works better over slow networks.
