righto. i have a pII 233mhz, and also have a Athlon XP 2400. Is it possible to boot the athlon, then boot the pII via the network in such a way that to the end user, you may as well be on the athlon. so all processing would be off-loaded to the athlon, ecept real basic stuff, say (yes this could be abit laggy) and all hdd storage would be remote, bar a /tmp which could stay on a local hdd. would this be a case of running a xclient on the pII or actually mounting a remote partition and booting from that, or mounting /dev as a nfs partition, or what? is this even possible (im sure it is somehow but it is a matter of how tricky)
thanks for your help,
adrian
It is very possible, and you have a few different options. If you want just a CLUE on your 233 box, then you can do a network boot (either as a diskless workstation or with partial storage) or you could load slackware on it (minimal install) and from there SSH to your athlon system. If you want X on your 233, then I would suggest LTSP (linux terminal server project) as the best solution. I think you can actually ssh and use your 233 as an xclient (I think there is a thread regarding this where davidphillips had given examples) connecting back to your athlon box, but I think LTSP would be much easier to set up and configure.
