Remote administration of Linux sever

Hi,

I wanted to use a remote administration tool (to get the remote desktop) to administer my Linux server from windows.

I tried VNC . But when I connect from windows (using Real VNC), what I get is a terminal.I'm not getting the graphical desktop of my linux server.
what should I do to get the graphical desktop.

Regards,

Jomy

You don't reed graphical desktop for remote administration. See: ssh.

Best way to work with X programs is to have a X server running on the client side.

My guess is that the problem with vnc is that what you probably get is a X session having only one xterm running. To get something more running, just start the programs in question (eg. you might want to run a window manager).

you can use PuTTy for ssh on M$ plateform, as a sys admin you need to logged in to your server "start ssh session" edited configuration files etc.
I thinks you are coming from M$ background that why you are asking about remote administration GUI.
As a linux/uinx admin you have to learn how to do things from vi , thats all you need for remote administration of Un*x like servers.
