releasing a DHCP address in Fedora

I need to release the IP address assigned by my ISP via DHCP using Fedora Core 2. Downing the interface (ifdown eth0) doesnt release the address from the DHCP server. I am sharing the wire temporarily with another computer and the way the ISP has things setup you need to release the IP you were using in order to use it on another machine.

How can I do this (equilvalent command in windows = ipconfig /release). Thanks in advance.

Maybe set it to a static ip and then set it back to dhcp. Give that a try.
