Release/renew an ip

How can I do something like 'ipconfig' in Windows (dos) in Red Hat 7.3.

ipconfig will release and renew an ip address in Windows. You call 'ipconfig /renew' for instance.

Is this possible in Red Hat and how do I do it? Sorry, I'm a Linux newbie!

TIA

you just take the interface down (e.g. ifdown eth0) and then back up again (ifup eth0) it's upto the server, not the client, as to wether you are given a new IP address, mot of the time you will get teh same ones over and over, assuming there is low contention on the network.
