redhat-config-samba does not start


Guys
I have redhat9 kernel 2.4.20-8
I have installed samba server when I try to access by the command redhat-config-samba I get the following response

Is the xserver up and running and you are typing this at a terminal window inside of x, or are you at the console with no xserver running?

it is up and running and I was typing the commang inside gnome-terminal

Have you tried manually creating the smb.conf and starting the daemons? I'll have to google the errors to be of more help. Did you install the rpm, if so which one? Did you compile from source, if so did you recieve any errors?

Samba works I view & create shares thru webmin or smb4k

No Peacedog the problem is with that software in particular there was nothing wrong with samba or it deamons in the first place

Try uninstalling the package and then reinstalling it. Did you install it as part of the os install or was it an after thought?

It was on the redhat CD and I have already done that ...thinking of fetching for an upgrade

You could try an upgrade. Did you get any errors on the install, dependancies maybe?
