redhat 9, xp, hp psc 1210

alright you most excellent of troubleshooteers, this should be pretty easy, but i'm a little confused...

what i have is an xp pro that has an HP psc 120 attached via USB to it. am running RH9 connected to my linksys wireless via ethernet. xp is wireless. i just named the printer and now when i run the printer configurator it does show up as the printer i named (almost home, i think) and i think this where i get confused...

i found this from the RH help section... and below is the breakdown:

Workgroup The name of the Samba workgroup for the shared printer.

alright i got that much easily enough....

Server The name of the server sharing the printer.

what machine would that be, RH or XP?

Share The name of the shared printer on which you want to print. This name must be the same name defined as the Samba printer on the remote Windows machine.

got that one since it does show up

User name The name of the user you must log in as to access the printer. This user must exist on the Windows system, and the user must have permission to access the printer. The default user name is typically guest for Windows servers, or nobody for Samba servers.

now this, i believe is going to be my xp username? does that sound right?

Password The password (if required) for the user specified in the User name field

if it is my xp username, no problems..

i hope this is clear enough and you guys can help. i'm pretty sure of it since you haven't let me down any since. in fact today, i got that little RH ssn issue fixed thanks to this site... thanks in advance... i'll be mucking around on my own...

workgroup is easy enough
server was the xp machine
share is the printer name
username was my xp username
password, well obvious

NOW!!! when i went to select my actual printer type... go figure, my model isn't listed...
what i have is an all-in-one kinda deal and that i think is the issue..

is there a defualt selection i might could use? if so, lemme know please....

SHOOT! failing to have the actual model i tried generic using both Raw Print Queue and Postscript Printer. neither will print a test page (at least not using CUPS test page or whatnot...)

as an update, even though nothing ended up printing, when i did go back and try to print something from the xp machine, it didn't work because all three test prints were still pending in the queue... so its sending the request but i noticed on the redhat site that maybe its best to choose generic printer if the printer is not locally connected. i'll go home and try that...

um this is your printer , right

have you looked a linuxprinting.org for suggested printers and drivers?

hp and Epson are the same company , aint they
um look at the Epson site, maybe the hp site for linux drivers

http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport...y=&lang=en

EDIT

look here , I think this is your driver

http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=16846

Well, at least the jobs are being sent to the XP box. It's a matter of installing the correct driver. Go to HP PSC 1210. Read the info and it eventually takes you to the sites that ehdwuld posted.

If you go to linuxprinting.org you will find information about this printer. It seems you need the right PPD file, the hpijs driver, and the "CVS version of HPOJ" to get it to print and scan.

I have attempted to follow the instructions there but I still have no output from my printer. If anyone has actually got this printer to work please say so .... it would be nice to know it's possible!
