Redhat 9 asus A7V8X network configuration. I am a total newbi- please help!

Hello all,

I have just switched over to the world of linux (redhat 9) and I need some help. Apart from learning this new OS I am trying to configure my PC to access the internet.

I have an Asus a7V8X motherboard with integrated Broadcom Gigabit LAN.

I can't get figure out how to complete the network configuration. I tried downloading the linux drivers from the asus website but I am even having problems installing these!

Yea, I know I am in need of some serious help!

I really want to convert over to linux so please please can some one help me? I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

can you execute scanpci or 'cat /proc/pci' and provide the chipset id of your ethernet card it would make looking up information easier. What happens when you try to install the drivers from ASUS?

I have the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo that has the 3com Gigabit Lan along with a Nvidia ethernet port, however, I wasn't able to get either of them working in SuSE or Red Hat and from various threads on here and at the asus boards it seems it is quite a hassle getting them to work properly. I went out and bought a $20 USD Netgear FA311 PCI ethernet card from Best Buy and it works perfectly.

I got a cheap network card at it works fine now. OK, perhaps the easy way out but it works which is cool. When I know what I am doing in Linux and figure out how to enable my inbuilt network chipset I'll ket you guys know!

Thanks for the help!
