What sort of Internet connection are you trying to get working? Dial up modem? xDSL? Cable modem? Something else?

Sorry, my mind reading abilities aren't what they used to be

Need more info. What's your whole network environment look like? For instance, what does the cable modem connect to? A router? The Linux box? Are you trying to use the Linux box as a router for other PCs to access the internet?

the cable modem is directly connected to the linux box. what I want to do is use it as a router and as a webserver.

lol@ "any ideas"every other post....any way...

does the Linux box have internet at all? Do you have it working with DSL yet? Print the output of "ifconfig -a" here so we can see what your network card configuration is looking like.

and dont post "any ideas" after you do that ....lol << meant that jokingly, not trying to be mean.

we spoke on AIM, he has the IP, gateway, netmask, and dns server:

open up /etc/resolv.conf with an editor and add the lines for your nameservers:

exmple:
Code:
nameserver 123.123.123.123
nameserver 124.124.124.124
nameserver 141.141.141.141
.
.
.you get the point:

next you want to config eth0, because your IP is static, its simple:

Code:
#ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.100 netmask 255.255.255.0
then add your gateway to the routing table:

Code:
# route add default 192.168.1.1

just replace all the IPs with their respective IP's and you should be good to go.
