Question RedHat 7.1 Simple Networking

warning --->
I'm trying to set up a private network between Windows 2000 and RedHat 7.1. I have a fresh install and I don't know that much about linux. I'd like to allow file sharing between the two. I have a Netgear fa311 network card in both machines, but I don't know if linux knows it. How can I tell if the network card drivers are installed and, once they are, how can i set up a private network to allow file sharing? Even a link to a link to a comprehensive website would be helpful. I'm a newbie so learning how, why, and what it is i'm doing would be very helpful also. I do have a little programming experience in C++ and a few others. I know that'll help. Thanks in advance.

file sharing = samba http://samba.org you've already got it installed i expect.

networking.. well try and ping the other machine, use 'ifconfig' on linux to tell you what network dev's are running (look for eth0).

your new holy place: http://www.linuxdoc.org

welcome to linux. please remove all clothes and leave them on the chair. Your cavity search will commence presently.

samba, etc

well, i think you're giving me more credit than i deserve. I doubt i have my network card installed. Those links were really helpful though. I haven't had time to look at all the documentation i downloaded though so i don't have any updates about it, but it appeared to be pretty helpful. I'm guessing i have to download some samba client for windows as well. I'll be working pretty hard on this the next week or so. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Thanks again
