I'm putting together a RH6 box to compile apps for customers who're still using RH6 on their networks.... Pardon my ignorance (I'm a programmer, not a Linux admin), but ifconfig shows only lo and not eth0, and there's nothing in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts for eth0... so I don't know how to start the thing. I tried just making an ifcfg-eth0 with the same values as my working 7.3 box, but that didn't work... when I try to start it is says "Delaying eth0 initialization".
Do I need to install some drivers for the card? Is there something simple I'm missing? The installation of RH didn't ask for anything about the network on this machine (like the RH7 install does).
If this is a complicated answer, feel free to point me in the direction of a good RH6 doc on ethernet setup.
I looked at the NIC to find the product and version number.... I then went to their website and found the drivers for it which came with a readme....
it essentially had me do a make & then:
insmod pci-scan.o
insmod tulip.o
depmod -a
ifup eth0
ifconfig (just to make sure)
it should be noted that pci-scan.o and tulip.o are proprietary to my NIC (I think).
that said, I still don't know how to make that happen at startup, so it requires me logging and doing the above when I reboot (which hardly ever happens, so it's not that big of an issue).
