I am trying to figure out how to set up my Red Hat Linux 9.0/WinMe box to access the net on a RoadRunner cable modem without any problems.
So far, I have been able to set up my NIC successfully and during bootup, it can be initialized and "brought up" with the IP obtained through DHCP. When I look to see what my IP is, it shows and IP that I expect to be assigned by my provider (as well as the DNS, masks, etc.).
My problem is that that even though I have an IP assigned to me under RH9, I cannot access the internet by any means such as using a Web browser, telnet, and FTP. If I were to boot through the WinMe half, the connection works fine, but not under RH9.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem. I have listed below some info on my system and setup. Please let me know, thanks!
OS: Red Hat Linux 9.0
NIC: Linksys 10/100 PCI interface at slot 0
IP addressing: through DHCP
Machine stats: P3 450, 128Mb mem, Award BIOS
ISP: RoadRunner
Cable Modem: Motorola Surfboard
Net Setup: Cable Line -> Surfboard -> Linksys 5-port router -> three computers
p.s. I have another computer: a 486-33 with RH5.2 that is running successfully off the same internet connection but is not worth using the x-server on it.
