http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_...ted_html2.html

The MA401RA = MA401
and the MA311NA =MA311

I have no idea why, but the listing off of lspci or cardctl or whatever has 2 letters more then they could be bothered to put on the box.

Be careful, many of the current network gear makers have been changing they're cards entirely and shipping them in the same packaging. The bargain-basement festival of wireless kit that has been hitting the streets throughout this past spring and summer has led to a lot of nastly little shocks for Linux users. Basically, make certain your /sbin/lspci mentions Harris and Intersil and if not, make certain you have the receipt handy.

Cheers,

Finegan

This is a normal, wired, network card right?

Thanx Finegan..I went ahead and ordered a used MA311 off of ebay, so hopefully it is (working & with an older one with Intersil
chipset.

I have copied all the notes you had in the thread "Netgear MA311 wireless and RH 8.0" for my setup, so hopefully I'll be on my way once I get the ma311. I have downloaded HostAP 0.0.3..that's should be all that I have to download and install..correct?

Regards
Mike

You should have seen it when we had $300 a month power bills.

Hmm... checklist:

-compile host_ap.
-get a NAT rules setup running, fyi the host_ap device by default will be wlan0 instead of an ethX.
-prep a dhcpd server to broadcast over the wlan, if you want to...
-Hope the kit doesn't arrive DOA.

Hope so 2, I found a place to get a DWL-520 by doing a search of Prism 2.5 PCI on froogle.com. Found one for 47.00 including shipping ! And they had intersil prism chipset advertised as a chipset. Pretty cool ehh? Havent seen many "problem" posts about the DWL-520 & hostap..maybe the installation/setup goes a little smoother, u think?

That's exactly how I tracked down the rtl8180 and an ADMtek 8211 based cards, every once in a while you just have to ditch name brands in order to be buying, for certain, what you want.

The host_ap module set is the last thing people turn to these days, so the people using it are typically higher up the learning curve then poor Joe Newbie with a buggy wlan-ng compile, which is sad actually as the module package, even way way way back around its 2001 days has been a breeze to compile, and back then it had both source sets for pcmcia-cs or in-kernel too.

Cheers,

Finegan
