...

maybe if you could give even _few_ details it could help us?

-We don't know which distro you use
-We don't know what is modem model you have
-We don't know what is your ISP
-We don't know what is your router model
-We don't know if you have a modem at all! Maybe you router support PPPoE by itself? Or that it has a modem connected to it?
-We don't know your network configuration (look at the question above)?

-What make you think it overheat?
-Is there something in your logs?
-In case of dual boot, is it working in windoze?
-Was it working better _before_ ?

for what I see, it's like your ISP is just dropping you. Maybe they do, some ISP don't like having more than 1 client connected from the same account. Hard to be sure.

For now, you might want to change these value in your config :
LCP_INTERVAL=20 (put 60 or anything bigger than 20)
LCP_FAILURE=3 (put 5 or anything higher than 3)
PPPOE_TIMEOUT=80 (raise to 120 or higher)

PPPOE_EXTRA="mtu 1444 mru 1500"
PPPD_EXTRA="mtu 1444 mru 1500" (sometime using a MTU too high might lead to problem, my ISP recommended me to use 1444)

hmmmm the problem is really on your ISP side. Have you changed your mtu and mur as well? It could help, but don't keep too much hope. It worth the try I gues :s

Are you using an MTU of 1412 or lower???
Not very hard to change PPPOE_EXTRA and PPPD_EXTRA, it's just file editing, the exact same thing you done with all these LCP options!

LCP is some kind of "DSL PING" your modem receive send to the server I believe. If it doesn't receive the "answer message" during a certain time, the connection hang up by itself. The INTERVAL is the number of "missed" LCP you have to wait before disconnecting and the TIMEOUT is the time to wait before considering there is no answer.
The PPPOE_TIMEOUT is the time to wait before disconnecting when the PPPOE no longer answer.

yup seems ok to me.

I dont know why WinXP don't have this problem... are both computer connected at the same time? Some ISP will drop ayn "second" connections from the same client.
