realtek and mint
trying to give life to a msi ms-6580 motherboard running p4 2.40ghz with 512 ram, video card is a nvidia geforce ti 4200.the problem is i reformat a hard drive with mint 17.1 and now am trieing to connect to the internet using realtek rtl819 usb,the router is a wireless 802.11n the signal is encrypted in wpa2. i click network, i get a pop up saying Ethernet,i click and does nothing, mmm need help

You might need to install the firmware but installing something like this:
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/firmware-realtek

I tend to find wicd more use than most but, other than that, you would have to be more specific regarding your issues.

You can download the package under Windows and put it on a USB stick then install it with:

sudo dpkg -i firmware-realtek
But better would be if you could plug your machine into the router temporarily to install things.
