Realtek & 3Com PCMCIA NIC's Not Activating

I've recently installed FC3 (Linux version 2.6.9-1.667) on a laptop I had hanging around. I can't seem to connect to my home network. I am using a Ugate-3200 gateway as my DHCP server. I've tried two different NIC's (see below) with no luck. I've tried activating each, but I got a 'failed' message. I know the hardware works because the laptop had Win2k on it before I loaded FC3 and the NIC's worked fine. The network cable works fine when connected to my desktop (WinXP) pc.. Any suggestions would be helpful.
