Question Really Really stuck with samba :(


Hi all,

I installed ubuntu 8.10 over my old 7.04 and kept my old samba conf that worked, but now i tried to set it up it refuses to work... i can see my server in the my network places on vista and xp but they cant connect to it at all. can someone tell me what wrong with my config below:

workgroup = WORKGROUP
server string = %h server (Samba, Ubuntu)
dns proxy = no
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 1000
syslog = 0
security = share
encrypt passwords = true
passdb backend = tdbsam
obey pam restrictions = yes
unix password sync = yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *Enter\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully* .
pam password change = yes
map to guest = bad user

[printers]
comment = All Printers
browseable = no
path = /var/spool/samba
printable = yes
guest ok = no
read only = yes
create mask = 0700

[print$]

Try changing this

Also, is you're workgroup = WORKGROUP correct? All the computers on the network needs to be set to this group.

Yep there all on workgroup, and i tried changing it to bad password, but it still says Windows Cannot access \\aarandomworld or \\192.168.0.3

I just tried downgrading the samba version and now i can browse the other pcs on the network with nautilus, and odly when i view arandomworld it has no shares in it.... i'm guessing that could be the problem but its very strange.....
