real player plugin on firefox/mozilla

Hi,

I might be totally naive in posting this..but..I have no other go..now that I have spent like more than 3 weeks on this.

I have been trying to install the real plugin on
mozilla/firefox.I have downloaded the Realplayer 10 for linux.then i
installed it and provided symbolic links to the nphelix.so and
nphelix.xpt in the /usr/local/mozilla/plugins and
/usr/local/mozilla/components respectively.Then,I checked the mozilla
browser plugins..I found that the realplayer plugin is present.

audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin RealPlayer Plugin Metafile rpm Yes

but,when I open some realmedia..online.it wont play it...where am I
going wrong? How can I install real player on linux so that I can play streaming video, audio from websites?please help me out.

Thanks.

What exactly happens when you select a real media file?

One thing to try is to register the library files by running 'ldconfig' as root. Sometimes an installer will fail to do this.

Hi,

Where is your actual Realplayer binary installed?

I've got mine installed in a non-standard location (not in my PATH), and I had to provide a sym link in /usr/bin to the actual realplayer executable for streaming content to work (this in addition to installing the plugin - and from what you've posted, your plugin setup is OK)

Give it a try.

(PS for info, I've got Realplayer installed in /usr/bin/RealPlayer/, but from memory, I think choice of location is arbitrary during install)
