rDNS query answer

Tried to parse reverse DNS query on low-level via libresolv.a means
(see res_query in man resolver(3)) f

I'm supposed to obtain for ip e.g. 173.194.35.179 result as:
muc03s02-in-f19.1e100.net,

but instead of that in filed rdata of struct __ns_rr
(see ns_initparse, ns_msg_count, ns_parserr in nameser.h) i obtained
smth. like that:
"\017muc03s02-in-f19\005\061e100\003net"

So, why it substitutes dot with different numbers (id's of DNS nodes?) and where can i read about that?

those look like ascii escape sequences which may be by design from the library used for the query. I may be wrong but this might be something to look into.
