rdesktop server

At the moment I use rdesktop for getting into NT boxes. However, I would love to convert my main server to Linux. The one thing that stops me is that since I spend a lot of time at work, I always need to terminal service into my NT server from work. Does rdesktop server allow me to run a terminal service client (Windows 2000 Pro) at a remote location and connect to it? Surprisingly I have not been able to find anything with google concerning this.

Not necessarily from the Terminal Services client - but "vncviewer/vncserver" could give you what you need. Check www.realvnc.com

Do you happen to know if I can use KDE or maybe BlackBox as my windows manager instead of TWM with the VNCViewer?

I have used both GNOME and KDE over VNC... piece of cake.

On redhat 7.2 - here is the file that does the GNOME startup for me..

~/.vnc/xstartup:
#!/bin/bash
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
/usr/bin/gnome-session

IMHO vnc is clunky and insecure. If all you need is a CLI then just use putty with ssh public key authentication. This is quick and super secure. I wouldn't suggest opening your server to VNC sessions over the internet. Behind a FW may be ok, but not to the real world.

VNC is good if you need a GUI. Of course, if you need to go over an untrusted network, you can always push it though a SSH tunnel. Look at something like TightVNC.
