I would like to set up a DNS server on my LAN using bind. Now I can read the docs and set it up, no prob. But I would like to know the physical aspects of it. I have a Pent 233 with 128mb ram w/ 4.3gb HD for this purpose. I also already have RH 7.2 running on it. My question is do I set it up as a computer on the LAN or do I need to set it up as a "firewall" to my cable modem and have all the traffic go thru it. Also is my 233 big enough for the task at hand? Also is RH 7.2 the best flavor for the job?
Any recommendations?

The question of wether to put the DNS on as a firewall machine of just stand alone is a matter of preference. The machine you have describe will how no problem running BIND. If you want it accessible to the outside world you will need to either have it running on the machine that is connected to the cable modem, or have a route from your cable modem to the machines that runs the DNS. If you have a cable modem I'd suggest getting some sort of firewall running to keep the bad guys out. You could always kill two birds with one stone and do both on the same machine.
