Question Question about persistent routes in redhat 9 shrike


Hi all,

To get my internet connection to work i constantly have to execute the
following 2 lines in a terminal window:

route add 10.0.0.138 dev eth0
route add default gw 10.0.0.138

This is for a (hacked) Alcatel ADSL modem with the folowing SIP-Spoof
configured:

Ive got it working under windows XP, but i don't know how to make above
routes permanent in Redhat 9 (i'm kind of a newbee to linux)

can anyone help me ?

You have to set the default gateway to that ip number. You can set a gateway by editing the /etc/sysconfig/network. Change GATEWAY= to GATEWAY=10.0.0.138. I think that that will do it for you.

Hi,

I tried that.
When deactivated en activated the network , the system became very slow suddenly.

I restarted, but still no internet connection until i ran the 2 route add lines again.

/etc/sysconfig/network now now like this: (GATEWAY line did not exist)

NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=REDHAT9
GATEWAY=10.0.0.138

The network configuration is like this:
(system settings --> network --> devices -->edit )

Adress: 212.129.138.198
subnetmask : 255.255.255.255
default gateway adress: 10.0.0.138

when i execute ifconfig:

Also after i executed the two route add lines i get :

I miss read your post and I wasn't at home to check out what I read on the internet. I have a Mandrake machine, so it should be the same as Red Hat. You need to edit your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to look like this.

DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dynamic
ONBOOT=yes

I have a static IP at home, but this should work for you.
