Question Question about my ip address.

My ip hasn't changed since i got broadband a few months ago.I do like the fact that my ip doesn't change,so i don't need services like dns2go or any of the others, but i hate the fact that if someone banns my ip i'm practically banned for life.Anythingi can do?

but why should you ever get banned??

interesting question.... all i could find was a tiny thread on a LUG somewhere. potentially useful bit says:

You might see if you get a new one after a dhclient -r, throwing
out the database in /var/db and requesting a new one, but I can't
guarantee anything.

depends what dhcp client you use as to what your command is.. likesay no idea if it'll work.

incidentally.. what do you do for a domain name then without a dyndns type thing... seems the easiest way to get an nice domain name. do you just remember the number?

Ok,i'm just saying that anyone could ban me,and i'd be banned for life,as for the next paragraph,i only understood "You might see if you get a new one after a..."after that i didn't understand a word.
Yes i just remember the number,no need to install the software, then log in,and all that other stuff.I was hoping for something simple and now i get stuff like"dhclient -r" and "/var/db". ?

Yes if you do get your ip banned then you won't be able to access the service/site that's the whole idea of banning the ip number in the first place. Usually there is a reason why your ip got banned, and if you are guilty then it's your own fault. If you think you where banned without a good reason usually contacting the person who banned you and explaining will get you unbanned.
If your ISP sells you one IP then you can't change it unless you specifically ask the ISP. But if you don't have any good reasons besides the fact that Mr. X banned you from his game server then your ISP is probably going to deny your request.
If you got banned from a website you can usually use an anonymous proxy to still access the website. But if the website had a reason to ban you then you should respect it and stay away.
You could do more complicated things like getting a shell account somewhere else and connecting through your account but I won't get into that.
