QoS before packets get into router CISCO

I have a strange situation:
I have a data center connected to different periferic sites. The connections are controlled/supported by a company and they use one central CISCO (on data center) and a CISCO per site (15 and growing). The connections are 64-256kbps (some leased lines other VSAT).

I need to setup a Linux Box between the data center and central router in order to make mine QoS for each site. The internet connection and mailserver is on the data center as database and webapplications and some bad behaved kill the connection to the site by downloading an attachment for eg.

Can someone help me on this?

You can certainly do what you suggest with a new Linux PC. But given the scenario you described, I would suggest you think twice about that solution.

You have a very common problem, and it is usually handled by the routers. I would strongly suggest getting with your WAN provider and have them setup a high priority for a particular port like ssh within the wan network for remote admin. Or if email is the only issue, you could lower the priority for that. Or if you control the email server, you could reduce the maximum message size. There are also ways to set priority (urgent, critical) flags within the packets from say an administrators station across a network if the routers on the WAN are configured to honor them.

Thanks for the advice.

The big problem with the company I mentioned is that they take too much time to answer. And now it is really urgent to have this solved. I asked them to make QoS and provided the list of services with priority. But noting.

I want move forward with this. So can someone guide me on this?
