Exclamation qmail is not working for me and I really wish it was

Hello to everyone,

I think qmailrocks really does rock. It's a great step by step tutorial for everyone.

Unfortunately, I am having some problems with it and really want to get it up and working. I have followed all the steps up to I think 15 now, but stopped there because of some major issues.

I am running Fedora Core 1 with all the updates.

Now my first problem is this.

When I try to send an email from an outside source such as hotmail to my mail server it is usually not delivered and I do not receive a mail delivery failure or nothing. I thought that was pretty strange. But once in a while I do receive an email from the postmaster at hotmail containing the following with a subject line of Delivery Status Notification (Delay):

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.

postmaster@domain.com

As I have been working through all the steps only one email has gotten through way back at the beginning. Right now I either do not receive it at all or I get one of those emails from the postmaster at hotmail.

Now my second problem is as so.

When I login to squirrelmail, and I try to send an email to anywhere, I get the following error:

ERROR:
Bad sequence of commands
Server replied: 503 Error: authentication not enabled

Has anyone encountered this error? If so I would greatly appreciate any help as I really want to get this up and running properly.

Thanks for all you help and I will look forward to hearing back from someone soon.

Take care,

Chris.[B]

Hello to everyone once again.

I fixed it. Postfix was still running.

I killed it and my mail server is up and running beautifully now.

A big thanks goes out to qmailrocks.org for the best how-to step by step I have ever seen and to maxut for pointing me in the right direction.

Once again thanks and take care.

Chris.

PS: For anyone interested in setting up a mail server I strongly recommend that you check out www.qmailrocks.org

Hello to everyone once again.

Mardanian

I am not currently running my own primary and secondary dns servers. I am using zoneedit.com as my primary and secondary dns servers pointing to my ip always… It’s kind of strange and works great and this way I do not have to setup or maintain my own dns servers as zoneedit.com is free to use and does all your dns for you.

But one of my next goals is to setup a primary and secondary dns using bind. I have to search around for another really great howto on this? I wonder if there is a dnsrocks.org? hum… Anyways, thanks for your reply.

And to Maxut.

Once again, thanks for your help. I will take a look at the mailing list. :-)
Thanks for the reply.

Take care everyone,

Chris.

your welcome

dnsrocks.org hugh? really cool he he
but configuring bind is not as hard as installing qmail.

u have fedora core 1. so dont edit /etc/named.conf. i tried to edit /etc/named.conf but it didnt work for fedora. then i found another way.
edit /var/named/chroot/etc/named.conf. it is a empty file. and place your zone files in /var/named/chroot/ directory.

Thanks for your help again.

I will try that very soon once I get the time to setup dns.

Right now I am having some very serious issues with my iptables... Have to figure out what's wrong with this one first.

Thanks for all your help again.

Take care,

Chris.
