pxe-boot from physical client to vm host server

hello,

I have set up pxe-server on CentOS-6.6 using VMWare workstation. Initially, I created a new VMNet8 NAT network (DHCP disabled) and have the server and a test VM client running on that same network. Not surprisingly, when I tried to network boot the test VM client, it worked.

Then, I tried to network boot a physical PC to my pxe-server on the VMWare workstation. I created a new VMNet10, which is set to bridged, and have the pxe-server's network adapter set to it. I used DHCP first to get subnet and gateway info. then set IPv4 manually. I was able to ping 8.8.8.8.

Afterwards, I connected the client PC and the computer running pxe-server via Ethernet cable. When I tried to network boot the physical client, it could not get DHCP service. (pxe-e51)

Then, I created a new VM client running on the same bridged VMNet10 as the server. And when I tried to network boot, it was able to get DHCP service but then failed at the TFTP (pxe-e32) stage.

(ps. for the DHCP config, I set it to be authoritative for all scenarios).

What should the setting of the sever be configured to?

Thanks for taking the time to go through this post.

It turns out, the custom network was bridged to the wrong Intel card and that firewall was turned back on. It is essential to disable SELinux and Firewall.
