PXE Boot Error

Hello all,

I am performing network installation on the computers in my lab. All the computers are getting installed except one. There is no problem with the switch. The machine facing this issue has still an operating system loaded and it is able to participate in other networking activities.

The machine under concer is giving problem only during network installation and displays following message:

PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received

There seem to be something wrong with the hardware PXE agent?

Could anyone please tell how can I confirm that it is hardware PXE agent issue using any of the Linux Networking tools. The machine still has Linux installed but it fails during network installation.

Can anybody please explain 4th point under "BOOTP/DHCP Codes" on this page?

"DHCP is available on the network, but PXE is not." means that there is no PXE service, i.e. dhcp / bootp options required like the tftp server address aren't being recieved by the pxe client.

in line with your previous thread about tcpdump, you would do well to find this dhcp request and see if there is a response and if it contains the right details.
