I have to setup a dedicated proxy server and I am using Linux fedora core 3. Squid seems to the best choice for proxy. I have a list of queries as follows.

Since this is my first time setting up a server I need to know what are the basic installation I need to do for the server. I mean the OS installation. Since the server will be a dedicated one I do not want to run any other demons or services to save the unnecessary resource usage.

Please share your experience on the issue or point me to some resources where I can find information on the same.

download the source package from squid.cache.org Althought FC itself provides an rpm format of squid, you can have more options by compiling on your own. the documentation on squid's website provides lots of nice installation tips. good luck!
