Iam using a proxy (90.0.10.102) to get connected to Internet from my LAN. Now I can browse all sites but iam not able to ping to the proxy address thru my command line (WINXP)....
i want that it should ping the proxy address and telnet also working

ex.

ping 90.0.10.102

then it displays:

request timed out
request timed out
request timed out

but i'm able to open all sites..

is dere some problem or its a normal thing?????

Labhesh.

Have you checked the firewall settings on the proxy server as well as the winxp box? Do they both allow ICMP traffic? On the proxy server, what does the following return? If it returns 1, change it to 0.
Code:
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all
Do you specifically need telnet? Will SSH do the job?

Do you have firewall

Do you run any firewall inyour proxy
If so you can enable/disable ICMP in firewall

-A INPUT -p icmp -s <IPrange/Mask> -i <ethX> --icmp-type echo-request -j ACCEPT/DROP

Or you can do it in real time by
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all

0 means pinging is enabled and 1 for disabling

Check the firewall in Win box also
