What is the context of this? i.e. Why is your supervisor asking you to propose projects? What kind of job do you have?

Doing what course? And what areas are you interested in?

macomrades;

You have to supply more information to get useful help here. Since you are asking about a school project, you should tell us the following kinds of things:
Your major (field of study)
The purpose of the project and the guidelines given by the instructor
Your personal interests
The kind of job you want after graduation

Would this be considered homework ?

If it's just 'Ideas' for a project, Then design a MAN for your local government connecting all their facilities (City Hall, Police, Fire, EMS, Municipal Courts, Water, Sewer, Ports, Building and Housing, Road Maintenance, Waste Management, Parks and Recreation, City Garage, etc..) using Fiber optics, VPN's and Point-to-Point connections (T1/E1), etc...

With this idea you can go as small or large as you desire because a local government has a LOT of separate facilities, but nothing says you have to connect everyone during 'phase one' of your project.

You need to take into account city wide IP addressing schemes, bandwidth needs, A single point Internet connection for the entire network to simplify security. Centralized DNS, and DHCP. etc..

ok guys.
i am a computer science major with personal interest in networking.
i started with a LAN design for a new departmental building on campus, drew the diagrams (logical and physical) and it was adopted for the building. My supervisor then said it is a requirement that all final year projects for computer science major must include some programming and that i should look for a way to incorporate some programming in it or change the topic.
I don't know how to incorporate programming into my design. Besides configuration of routers, servers etc, how else can i put some programming in this project?
I will personally like to do a project based on networking because i find it most interesting.
