ProFTPD can't connect...
I've setup an FTP server with ProFTPD and it works great on the local network, but when i try it over the internet it doesn't work. I know my router is setup corectly so that isn't it. is there a setting in the config throwing it off??? Thanks in advanced :)

Is you router running stealth mode? What I mean is that the reson you may not be able to ftp past your router/switch/hub is that you have to enable the forwarding to that port - if I'm not mistaken port 21.
I am a noob so I'm not 100% sure about this but it may be along the track of packet forwarding and port. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong __________ JPS |
Like i said before, i know its NOT my router or any of my equipment. I've run lots of other FTP servers no problem. Something isn't setup right with ProFTPD.
PS) I"m running mandrake 9.0 |
when you say "it doesn't work", are you getting a Connection Refused message or will it just not allow logins. Are you using inetd to control proftpd or running it standalone or as a daemon?
Also, can you include the /usr/local/etc/proftpd.conf |
Check you are not using one of the 'private' network areas, such as 192.168.x.x, etc. Routers cannot route these addresses by convention, although it is not impossible a poorly built router could!
