Procedure to add a second processor


Hi,

can someone tell me the procedure to install a second cpu to do dual processing on a linux box server

using red hat 9.0 or even 7.0

did i have to only do it physicaly or there's something else i must do

thank a lot in advance

Um, you don't just "install" a second CPU.

You have to have a dual CPU motherboard, and I'm 99% sure you don't have a dual CPU machine, unless this machine used to be a badass server.

and it's a mother board that can take dual processor


it there somewhere that i can find the procedure to do the swap

Well, if you have 2 CPUs in the machine, as far as I know, there is nothing else you need to do.

I don't know if Red Hat supports dual CPUs, but I believe that other distros do.

The only caution I would offer is to ensure that both CPU's are EXACTLY the same (Somebody correct me if I am wrong).

Depending on when your first purchased, CPU1 CPU2 may now have some very slight variants which may either disrupt the entire motherboard, or cause one or other CPU to not perform to it's top spec. Or they may both fail. Did you purchase CPU1 separetly, or did the CPU come as part of the box and was bought as a server/high end workstation?
