problems with win xp gateway, can FTP but not HTTP from linux station
 

Hey there

im having trouble surfing the internet from a linux station which is connected through a windows Xp home gateway.
The strange thing is that i can FTP from it and can ping websites and everything.
I just used the IP of the gateway computer as the DNS for linux (SuSE 8.2) and this seems to work.

I have seen a couple of similar threads here recently but their solutions have not worked for me.
Im trying to use Lynx as my browser, its a long story but i dont have a monitor for my linux box yet so im using PUTTY from the gateway, though im pretty sure this is not the source of the problem.

Any help would be much appreciated

Well i haven't fixed the problem, im still not quite sure what it was, but i installed links and gave it a try instead of lynx or the w3 one and for some reason it works where the other 2 didn't.

Not sure why lynx would not work, but hey it works now so its all good,
