Problems with netsemi PCI netcard in phlak live cd

Hello all,
I'm trying to get my PHLAK linux live CD funtioning on the network. I'm working on an HP laptop with a Nationl Semiconducter DP83815/816 10/100 PCI NIC card. The outout of ifconfig eth0 shows that the card is down. If I bring it up then kill and rerun pump -i eth0, pump just fails to get an IP address. I'm posting to this forum from the same laptop running XP so I know atleast hardware wise the card is working. The output of lspci shows that the card is recognize and I can see no IRQ conflicts. I'm running out of ideas here, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The kernel is supposed to bring up and configure this interface via ifup and pump. I'm guessing that it's failing to start up properly during init, however I have not seen any log our console output explaining why or what failures are occuring. I posted this on phlak.org's support forum, and have yet to get a response from any of their more knowledgable users. PHLAK is still a young project, about a year old now, so not too many users on the forum to answer questions so I'm hoping this forum will produce more help. Thanks all in advance.
