Problems with Mandrake 9.2 Accessing the Internet through a Linksys ADSL Router

I have 3 machines on a network and untill recently have only had internet on one of them.

Rather than mucking around with a proxy, I bought a Linksys ADSL router with 4Port Switch.

When setting up the switch in Mandrake 9.2 I typed in the IP address of the router into the address bar to access the routers settings. But both Mozilla and Konqueror came up with an error saying "The connection was refused to...". So I tried through Win$ and it came up!

I set everything up and connected fine (of course as fine as things could be in Win$ )

So I went back into Linux and tried to reconfigure the Networking settings in the
config tools but to no avail. I am able to network 2 Linux machines and this is still working so why can i not access the router and go online?

I have setup a Mandrake Linux machine at Work through their proxy and it worked Beautifully.

Thanks for the support.

How does the windows machine get online? Does it get a DHCP'd IP address from the router?
If so, do you have the mandrake machine to do the same?

Yes it does it has DHCP setup i have a pool of 50 IP's to choose from I don't know if my Mandrake Machine has the same setup but I have tried to enter one of the ip's from the pool into the Proxy settings but it didn't work so i set it back to auto-detect

I don't know how to setup DHCP on the Comptuers side I am only just learning about networking.

You need to set up your mandrake system to use DHCP, do you know how to do that?

Thanks Lads!!!

Worked like a treet, I now never question whether Linux has made a Botch up

It is alwasy something I have done.

The system was set to static NOT DHCP so it was not selecting an IP From the 50. After selecting that it found the precise IP of the Routers Gateway and I NOW AM ONLINE!

Thanks Again!
