Question Problems with eth0 after switching to Linksys ethernet card

I recently swapped my old 3Com 10baseT enet card for a new Linksys 10/100 card. Now when I boot my RedHat 6.2 OS, I get the message that eth0 (referring to the old 3com card) fails at startup. I believe the problem is that the new hardware wasn't automatically detected. If so, how do I force the hardware detection routine to execute?

Or is there something else I should try?

Thanks,
Jerry

you can probe for the new ethernet module as well as the MAC address; as the old hardware has been registered in some script files and or run netconfig to configure for the Linksys if your kernel does support it.

Resolved!

Turns out the Linksys claim of Linux support wasn't quite as transparent as it implies (or I inferred). The card uses the tulip driver, but beware of the one installed with your RedHat distro. Depending on the RH version and the Linksys card version, you may have to recompile tulip.o. In my case, I had a version 5 card and RH 6.2. The card came with a floppy that included a utility for compiling and installing the proper files. Once I ran that, everything came up perfectly.

Guess I should've checked that before posting.
